Our Vision

An accepting Australia that understands we have all come from somewhere. We are all ‘boat people’.

We are a diverse range of individuals of different ages, genders, backgrounds and beliefs.

We are all united by our commitment and passion for the rights and well-being of refugees and asylum seekers.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
— Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

I Am A Boat Person is an apolitical and secular charity supporting refugees in and out of immigration detention through Education, Understanding and Hope.

I Am A Boat Person has partnered with Westpac’s Davidson Institute to create a free Financial Literacy Program for refugees.

Financial literacy is understanding how money works, how to feel in control and how to manage your money effectively. Financial literacy involves every decision we make in order to reach our financial goals.
